Brachypelma boehmei (the Mexican fireleg tarantula) has solid rust-orange to brilliant firey-red legs from the patella down to the metatarsus. This tarantula is known for both its beauty and its hair kicking. Fireleg tarantulas have a relatively calm disposition, but they can be skittish in that they have urticating hairs that they are more than willing to share - sometimes for seemingly no reason at all.
These spiders are terrestrial burrowers, endemic to scrublands in Mexico. Brachypelma boehmei grow to be a moderate size of about 6 inches. Female Mexican fireleg tarantulas can live to be 20+ years. Males are much shorter lived.
